James Walter Johnson Sr., 80, of Springfield, Ohio passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026, surrounded by his family. A proud U.S. Army veteran who served in Vietnam, James returned home to build a 40-year career as a master electrician.\n\nHe was a deacon at Mount Olive Baptist Church for over three decades, where his rich baritone could always be heard in the choir. He coached youth basketball for 22 years and never missed a Buckeyes game.\n\nJames leaves behind his beloved wife Patricia, sons James Jr. and Marcus, daughter Tanya, and seven grandchildren who knew him as "Papa J."
